Meet our ambassador - Tess Begg

This week we sat down with our Amazonia ambassador - Tess Begg. Tess is an Australian Sydney-based vegan, foodie and fitness enthusiast. She inspires people globally to live a happy, healthy and active lifestyle through her Instagram and YouTube Channel, sharing hundreds of ‘What I Eat In A Day’ videos, workouts, delicious recipes and posts that promote veganism as an abundant lifestyle with endless cruelty free options. Tess discovered her passion for health & fitness in 2014 and on November 1st decided to go vegan as she could no longer support the cruelty that came with eating animal products and she has never looked back! Tess aspires to continue spreading the vegan message in an approachable way that makes it easy for people to adopt the lifestyle.One look at her instagram and you'll be inspired to make a the change, cook some delicious meals and head to the beach!

Here’s what she had to say, enjoy!

How long have you been plant-based for and what caused you to make the change?

I have been vegan for 5 years now. In 2014 I embarked on my journey to living a more conscious lifestyle. I first transitioned to vegetarianism. As I continued to research, I could no longer stomach the idea of eating the way I once did, and I stopped viewing animals as food. Instead, I saw them as the living beings they are. On November first 2014, I made a life-changing decision to go vegan and have not looked back since.

What advice would you give to people who want to start moving towards a more plant-based lifestyle?

Set out your intentions, ease into it and focus on longterm. It’s important to educate yourself on nutrition to ensure the change is smooth and you feel your best; sometimes people may not eat enough calories or get enough variety which in turn makes them feel flat, and then they may blame a plant-based diet. Luckily these days there are endless amounts of resources for nutrition and plant-based information, nutritionfact.org is my favourite. I also recommend checking out challenge22.com as you can be assisted throughout your first month.

We see you've really gotten into your fitness lately, what's your best tip for those starting to live a more active lifestyle?

Have fun with it and don’t overwork yourself. Recovery and rest is so important for achieving results and nutrition is also a big part; make sure you are fuelling yourself before and after your workouts!

What are your ingredient must-haves that you keep your pantry stocked with?

Some of my pantry staples are oats, buckwheat, quinoa, brown rice, goji berries, dried fruits, granolas, hemp seeds, chia seeds, flours, liquid sweeteners and unrefined sugars for baking, coconut, cacao and carob powder, nuts/nut butters and medjool dates.

What are your favourite cafes you like to eat at?

In Sydney my favourite places to eat are Kindness Cafe, Eden, Bodhi Restaurant, Gardeners Lodge and Koto Avalon.

If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Acai bowls of course or Mexican food!

You have created so many beautiful recipes with us. What are your favourite Amazonia products and how do you like to use them?

My favourite products are the frozen pure acai and Pitaya, slim and tone choc mint or cacao macadamia protein powders, the vitamin C complex and prebiotic greens powder. I use these products daily in my smoothies! I also can’t resist the jackfruit, it’s so delicious and perfect for savoury meals.
