3 easy tips to get back on track for spring.

For many of us, there are some habits we would prefer to leave behind coming into the warmer weather heading into summer. Over the winter months, it is common to indulge and lean towards comfort foods and treats that may not be a usual part of our everyday diet. Sweets are especially easy to reach for it can be hard to say no to that chocolate brownie or that extra serving of ice cream after dinner. Life is all about balance! The important thing is that we can get back on track to feel and look our best as we welcome in the warmer weather.

Drink more water

More often than not, you would not have drunk as much fresh water as your body is used to. This results in slight dehydration and can definitely affect how you feel and your body’s normal function. It can seem like every health tip ever suggested, tells you to drink more water. There are many good reasons for this. Drinking extra water especially after the holiday season flushes out toxins and can make you feel instantly better. Water also supports metabolism and digestion and can help to naturally control your appetite making it even easier to get back on track with your diet. Aim to drink between 2 to 2.5 litres per day (around 8 to 10 cups).

Cut the sugar

After consuming a little more sugary drinks and/or desserts it can be useful to completely stay away from any sweet treats. This can also help your body benefit the most from all the extra water and nutrients you are consuming. You may also find, the more you eat of something, the more you crave it. Sugar has also been said to be extremely addictive. Cutting it out completely for a few days or weeks can really be beneficial and help balance your diet and digestive system again.

However, make sure you don’t cut out all Carbohydrates completely. Good quality, nutritious foods like fruit, vegetables and whole grains will help you feel satisfied and provide you with enough energy throughout the day without crashing or intense sugar cravings.
